Course Overview

After successfully completing the certificate at IHM, students will transition into the Master of Science in Nutritional Science at Arizona State University (ASU). This 12-month program (5 courses (30 credit hours)) provides a comprehensive exploration of advanced topics in nutritional science, including clinical nutrition, research methods, and disease prevention. ASU’s curriculum is designed to develop professionals with the skills needed to tackle health challenges related to nutrition across various populations and healthcare settings.

Courses include Research Methods, Advanced Nutritional Interventions, and electives that allow students to specialise in areas such as Complementary Nutrition or Nutrition in Chronic Disease Management. Upon completing the Certificate in Nutritional Science at IHM, students will transition to ASU to complete 12 months of advanced coursework, earning 5 courses (30 credit hours). Entry Requirements

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree (nutrition or science is recommended) from a recognised university.
  • Students who are pursuing the Master of Science in nutritional science need to complete the following prerequisites: anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, general chemistry with lab, general nutrition for majors, organic chemistry with lab, and statistics.
  • Competitive applicants typically have a “B” (3.00 on a 4.00 scale) grade point average in the last 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of undergraduate coursework. If you do not meet the minimum GPA requirements, your application may still be considered by the department.
  • English proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS, or equivalent).

  • Upon completing the Certificate in Nutritional Science at IHM, students are eligible to transition to the Master of Science in Nutritional Science at ASU.

English Proficiency Requirements

  • Pass the TOEFL, IELTS or PTE, or Duolingo English test
  • TOEFL: Minimum score of 80 on the TOEFL iBT® (testing center only; no home editions accepted).
  • IELTS: Minimum overall band score of 6.5 (Academic).
  • PTE: Minimum score of 60.
  • Duolingo: Minimum score of 105.

STEM-OPT extension:This program is typically eligible for a 12-month OPT (Optional Practical Training) period, with a potential 24-month STEM extension, making it a 36-month total period. This allows international students the opportunity to gain additional off campus work experience in their field of study after completion of course studies and post – OPT. The OPT extension does not apply to students completing a degree through ASU Online.
